Last year, the Saskatoon Chess Club participated in its first ever Extra Life event in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan's Games Club. Proceeds of this event directly went to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. This year, the SCC will be once again join the U of S Games Club and participate in this worthy cause and will be putting on several chess related activities for chess enthusiasts with the purpose of not only raising funds but raising the profile of the SCC and chess in Saskatoon and more broadly in Saskatchewan. While there is no fee for participating in these activities, we highly encourage attendees to donate to this cause. The first event will be a speed chess tournament where interested players will go face to face in a round robin style tournament, each player getting 5 minutes to play, with no increment. A Saskatchewan speed chess champion will be crowned. Following this, we will provide an introduction to chess by one of our knowledgeable members. They will also be on hand to answer any questions about the SCC, chess in Saskatchewan, and how families, youth, and educators can get involved with chess. The general public will also have the opportunity to sign up for an opportunity to play some of the best chess players in Saskatchewan in a head-to-head 15 minute per player challenge. A score will be kept to see how well these players fare against several challenges. Lastly, we will encourage free play among all Extra Life participants and offer an SCC members vs. the public challenge - a score of SCC members vs. the public will be kept, how will the SCC do?!
